2018 Summer Spirit Festival: The Roots, Erykah Badu, Nas, And More Are Set To Raid Maryland

Summer concerts have been the norm in the music business for years and will continue to be as long as promoters are still calling the shots. Fans of certain artists will flock small clubs, large stadiums, and venues in the rain, heat, and gusty wind just to get a glimpse or hear one note from some of their favorite artists. Well, the DMV area is set to be raided by the likes of Erykah Badu, The Roots, Nas and more as CD Enterprises Inc will bring you the 2018 Summer Spirit Festival at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD August 4th-5th.

What makes this event so huge is not only the list of performers but imagine listening to music you can actually understand. Remember those days? Remember how it felt when you first heard “Proceed” by The Roots? How about the time when Badu told you to call “Tyrone” to help you get your stuff. These were bars and hooks that we still recite to this day. If The Roots and Badu are not enough, tell me who won’t be ready to throw elbows when Method Man & Redman hit the stage? How many hits does that duo have combined and on an individual level?

But the icing on the cake could very well be that of Nas. With his recent ode to Hip Hop with “Nasir”, fans of not only his music but the genre were floored with his relevant wordplay and delivery that took us back to 1994. Just the thought of hearing something off “Illmatic” has me ready to set up camp outside the Merriweather Pavilion now.

But it’s not all about Hip Hop at the 2018 Summer Spirit Festival. For the ladies seeking to be serenaded, Raheem DeVaughn, Bilal, and Bryan J will also be there to set the stage on fire with their vocals. But that’s not it. Are you ready to get your groove on with some real soulful music? CDE has a lineup that will quench your thirst with acts like Phony PPL, Lion Babe, and Daniel Caesar.

And, for all those Hip Hop heads ready to hear lyrics with some meaning, Anderson Paak, and Rhapsody will be live to drop some knowledge on the crowd as well. But with this being an event in the DMV area, a festival wouldn’t be full-fledged without that sound. You know the kind I’m talking about. The one that forces you out your lawn chairs to dance. What CDE was able to pull off is nothing short of amazing with Backyard Band and Ms. Kim & Scooby.

To round off the list, the crowd will be brought to its feet with live performances by DJ Quicksilva, Masego, and Lizzo. Talk about a lineup that will have fans drooling at the mouth till next year. No wonder this is a two-day event. No one you can fit all this talent on one bill in one day.
