5 Binge-Worthy Shows You May Have Passed Over

Binge

Thanks to COVID-19, the entertainment world is at a standstill of sorts. No new movies are on the horizon which has left people plenty of time to binge-watch shows that may have passed on or ones they just didn’t have time to sit down and see with everyday life hanging over them. But thanks to the streaming sites such as Netflix, Hulu, and more, people are getting the opportunity to join the masses.

If you can believe it, there are still some who have never watched an episode of LOST or Game of Thrones. While labeled as two of the best to ever hit the Primetime slot, some viewers just haven’t had the time to sit down and start at episode one.

For those asking what shows should they binge during these times, here are a few suggestions we would like to make.

The Blacklist

The Blacklist is a Drama/Action show based on one of the FBI’s Most Wanted who risks everything he has built in order to save one agent. Elizabeth Keen is the agent but she has no idea why Raymond Reddington has just entered her life. Reddington and the FBI agree to join forces where Red helps them take down other criminals.

The show is filled with fights and gun battles, however, it’s the mystery surrounding the backstories that make The Blacklist such an appealing show. Is Red really Liz’s father? What health issues does he have over him and what is the endgame when every secret is finally exposed?

How To Get Away With Murder

How To Get Away with Murder was one of those shows that slipped through the cracks. A reason for that was due to where it was placed in the primetime TV slot. It was sandwiched between Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal on Thursday nights. HTGAWM is was done so brilliantly that the audience never had a chance to bask in its glory until the show went off the air for good in 2020.

The Chi: Kevin Should Encounter No More Pain

A lawyer takes five students under her wing and teaches them how to cover up a crime. It’s a classic game of cat and mouse but with so many plot twists, the audience has no idea who to trust. If mystery TV is your thing, then imagine a show that starts off with a crime and works its way backwards that forces you to guess who did it and why? With a top-heavy cast, picking your favorite may have you on the wrong side of the fence.

Smallville

For all the fans of superhero shows, there is always a beginning. Without Smallville, there would be no Supergirl, Arrow, Flash, or any of the Infinite Crisis crossovers. Smallville was the beginning of it all. It detailed the younger years of Clark Kent before he became Superman. It chronicled the relationships he built and the times he struggled trying to figure out who he is and why he was out on earth.

But best of all, it was the dynamic between him and foe Lex Luthor. What made Smallville so attractive to its audience was the story behind Lex and Superman. Fans can identify the “good vs. bad” concept, but Smallville started them out as friends who then turned into enemies.

Scandal

In the times that we’re in now, binge-watching a show like Scandal may do the brain some good. In the early goings, Scandal was in a class all by itself with its sensitive topics and storylines. Olivia Pope is the “fixer” for Washington DC. When someone finds themselves in hot water, it’s her and her company OPA who is called to bail them out. However, Olivia is also tied to the President and his family.

There was an affair that did more than shake up the White House. In that midst of that scandal, there were assassination attempts, kidnappings, murders, and almost every other deceitful act one could imagine. The relationships were just as great. The writers found creative ways to draw lines in the sand that even the best and loyal of friends were forced to cross.

One Tree Hill

Coming of age shows have been the norm for Primetime TV for decades. Wonder Years, Beverly Hills 90210, and more have taken their shots and set the standard for teenage dramas. Then came One Tree Hill. It was not widely acclaimed by the critics but years later, it’s still viewed as a trendsetter.

One Tree Hill centers around two brothers as they figured out their troublesome relationship with themselves, their parents, and friends. Even after losing two of its main stars, the show still found ways to succeed. Basketball was a hot topic but so were issues regarding bullying, parental guidance, romance, and bonding. In a time when the world is at odds, a show like One Tree Hill is worth the binge to at least take us back to a time when family mattered.
