New York Knicks: How did it come to this?

As the days go on, it seems there is more and more news coming out regarding the situation between the New York Knicks and former Knicks player Charles Oakley. In case you are not aware of what I am talking about, I will bring you up to date. Back on Wednesday night the Knicks were playing the Los Angeles Clippers, former Knicks player Charles Oakley was in the stands as a fan and one thing lead to another and he was escorted out of Madison Square Garden by cops. He was charged with three counts of assault and was later released early Thursday morning.

While it seems that the story changes from who you talk to, it seems that Charles Oakley is being made out like the bad guy. As Michael Kay would end up saying on his ESPN show, “Charles Oakley will never be allowed to enter Madison Square Garden again, even if he purchases a ticket.” The Knicks have also gone ahead and fired their head top security guard as a result of this incident. It should be noted that Charles Oakley has had a rocky relationship with the Knicks over the years as he has been very critical of ownership.

As someone who has been a Knicks fan for most of his life, this whole situation has made the Knicks organization look classless. A majority of NBA teams celebrate their past in one form or another. For whatever reason it is, the Knicks treat their past players, such as Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley, like crap. Unfortunately, this is only a piece of the bigger picture of one of the most dysfunctional teams in the NBA. This team will continue to be a failure as long as James Dolan is still the owner of the team. In all honesty, how can anyone be a fan of a team that treats their past players like crap?
