A Million Little Things Was Renewed, and We Have Questions
Last season of A Million Little things was frustratingly impossible. There were moments that were fun and energetic, then there were moments we were like get to the point already. The show had all the makings of stay power but we were never quite sure if it would survive to get a second season. Now that stations plans have been revealed, although it was revealed back in February, that A Million Little Things was renewed but we still have plenty of questions we’d like answers for.
While weaving his web of friendship and support of his closest friends, Jon was also sinking deeper into his own depression. Just how deep did his wounds go and how do they explore them? We know he was doing all he could to keep his relationships alive, but where did the crack in the armor begin? Everyone goes through struggle, will we get to see his lowest point too far into the show people begin to lose interest or will it take center stage?
Aside from Jon, who steps up for this group of friends? For a show that plays on human emotion, we’d like to assume after Jon’s death everyone joins in and supports each other. But real life has taught us otherwise. True emotion will have someone trying to fill the void of strength among struggle. Will it bounce back and forth to one person or another or will one person be driven to carry the load.
The hardest part about A Million Little Things is seeing a show, like most tv dramas these days, where everyone is struggling all at once. They go from a feel good story about overcoming your struggles to a love affair with the “everyone struggles” motto. Yes, everyone does struggle with their own personal demons, but not everyone is going through those struggles at the same time as everyone else. When do we go back to the shows where one person succeeds and their moment of joy is the temporary distraction those who struggle needed. Why do writers have to bash us over the head with the fact that everyone in life has drama going on. We get it! Every character doesn’t need to be deep in their own depression all day, every day.
And just how much time will we spend on the past? Clearly this is a show that mirror’s NBC’s This Is Us in terms of their multi-timeline story. Will we get to see more backstory from other characters or will the flashbacks be strictly Jon’s alone? Too much time spent building prior events will often derail the direction of the continual story. There will need to be the right amount of balance to get everyone’s story across with the same amount of effort.
A Million Little Things aired in September and will likely return to that release schedule come 2019. Will you be sticking around for season 2?
