Maximo and Memo on Acapulco

Apple TV+ has an underrated hit on its hands. Everyone and their brother might be talking about Ted Lasso, See, or The Morning Show but there’s one that viewers might be missing out on. Coming up on its second season, Acapulco might be the hidden gem of Apple TV+. With a How I Met Your Mother vibe, Alcapulco is a fun, family-friendly sitcom that all ages can enjoy. Now that season two is right around the corner, we have to wonder where the story will take our lead character, Maximo Gallardo.

Season 1 ended with Maximo down on his luck. Things at the resort were changing and not for the better, at least for him. By the end of season 1, Maximo saw the girl get away, his promotion goes to someone else, and feels like his mentor betrayed him for it.

Let’s start off with Julia. From the moment he saw her, Maximo was smitten, but of course she belongs to another, Chad. At the end of season after some light friendly flirting. As the season progressed we saw Julia drift away from Chad and closer to Maximo. However, his world came crumbling down when Chad proposed in front of a whole crowd and she said yes.

Naturally he wished her well, but you could see the frustration in his face. We see a bit of resentment out of Maximo but he doesn’t have the whole story. We already saw the awkward conversation between she and Chad. There was also the moment with Don Pablo and Diane where she expresses how easy it would be to break the couple up. There’s still hope for him, but right now he’s taking his ball and going home. How will Maximo treat her when season 2 of Acapulco returns?

Then there’s the management position he misses out on. Immediately he assumes Don Pablo never stuck up for him, never put in the recommendation, and betrayed his trust. It isn’t until later in the finale we learn just why Hector was promoted over him. He had already blown up at Don Pablo over his missed opportunity. Just how much will that wipe the slate clean for the two. Will Maximo have to regain his trust, or work twice as hard to earn forgiveness?

Hopefully there’s answers in season 2 like why won’t certain people be happy to see him at Don Pablo’s funeral. Is Julia one of them? She’s clearly not in the picture in the future version of Maximo’s life, so what wrote her out of his story? Does his overreaction to the season finale strain his relationships enough that people keep their distance?

Acapulco returns October 21st streaming only on Apple TV+.
