All Elite Wrestling began operations on New Years Day. There’s been bits and pieces coming out, but we won’t know more until their rally on Tuesday. As of this writing only Cody, The Young Bucks, Hangman Adam Page, and Brandi Rhodes have officially signed with AEW. It has been reported that Adam Cole’s Girlfriend, Britt Baker, has also signed. However, there has not been anything official.

It seems that AEW wants to bring in the top leveled guys. There have been reports going around the internet that Cody and the Young Bucks have interest in Bill Goldberg. We last saw Goldberg in a WrestleMania 33 when he dropped the Universal title to Brock Lesnar. I give AEW all the credit in trying to go after Bill Goldberg, but I could see a few problems with that.

For starters, it could come off as WCW or early TNA. When both of those companies began, they were going for former WWE talent. I think if AEW were to do well, then don’t load your roster with former WWE talent. If I were AEW, I’d focus more of my attention to superstars from Impact, ROH, NJPW, and some of the smaller promotions that don’t get noticed.

The second reason why it might not be a good fit is the age factor. He is now 52 years old. I find it unlikely that he can still get into the ring and perform good matches with the guys who should be in AEW. Let’s be honest, how well could it look if we get Goldberg vs. Pentagon, Sami Callahan, or someone else. When he had his latest WWE run, he had two matches that weren’t even a minute of in-ring work.

While there are a few negatives. There is a positive to signing Bill Goldberg. By bringing him in, you are bringing in someone who has name recognition

As we get close to AEW starting, it will get interesting to see who they are able to sign.

Please remember that this is just a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt.
