AEW: Could the Moxley/Omega match cause problems with the Maryland Athletic Commission?
A few weeks ago, AEW held their first Full Gear from Baltimore. The main event was a “lights out” match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. It was a non-sanctioned match due to how both Moxley and Omega were not going to stop at what they were going to do. The match had everything from blood to glass to mouse traps. It was probably the most split the wrestling world has been on match. Many people loved it because it was not something we saw a lot. However, there were many people who didn’t like it because they felt it was too much. The ones who didn’t like it felt that both wrestlers went too far.
Apparently one of the people who didn’t like it was former WCW announcer Chris Cruise. He recently contacted the Maryland State Athletic Commission about this match and wanted to know about the rules when it comes to blading. He wanted to know about allowing matches to continue if a performer is bleeding. It doesn’t matter if it’s on purpose or not. He also wanted to know if their was a doctor at the show from the Commission. This is all according to the Wrestling Observer.
In all honesty, this doesn’t come as a surprise to me. Maryland has some of the strictest rules when it comes to wrestling and bleeding. But, I want to look at it from someone who was watching it from my house. I didn’t mind it cause it was different. I feel that because of how WWE has decentralized their fans that seeing red is bad. Yet, we saw many incidents of that in the Attitude Era. If this happened every week, then I could see where the problem is. But when this happens once in a while, then there isn’t a problem in my opinion.
