AEW: Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley had fans thinking ECW during their match
In the “main event” of Full Gear, Jon Moxley took Kenny Omega in one of the most brutal matches in 2019. If you haven’t kept up with AEW Dynamite, this match became a lights out match (non-sanctioned) match because of how these guys have seemed to have had a ton of hate for each other. If you recall, Jon Moxley made his AEW debut after Omega went to battle with Jericho at Double or Nothing back in May.
After Moxley attacked Jericho and the ref, he turned his attention to Omega. It was then that these two were set to cross paths. We were suppose to see this dream match happen at All Out. However, a week before hand it was announced that Moxley was not cleared due to having a MRSA infection. We ended up seeing Omega take on PAC instead. But we finally got this match between Omega and Moxley at Full Gear. It seemed that these guys were going to go to extremes in this match. I figure there will be some people in the IWC who are going to be complaining that this match closed out Full Gear and it wasn’t the AEW title match.
If you want to get technical, the Cody/Jericho match did close out the show as the Omega/Moxley match wasn’t sanctioned by AEW. These guys had a match that would have been a main event in the original ECW. Both Moxley and Omega did stuff that most wrestling fans have not seen in a long time. A lot of this is due to many wrestling fans being under the WWE spell and as we see in the WWE, very rarely are the wrestlers going to bleed in a match. But while this was bloody, it had it’s technical moments.
While I was watching this match, I had thoughts of this being the main event of a Barley Legal or any of the original ECW ppvs.
Jon is a diehard wrestling fan but still takes time to show his devotion to the Giants, Mets, and Knicks
