AEW: MJF turns on Cody after he lost to Chris Jericho at Full Gear
AEW held their Full Gear PPV last night. In the co-main event, Cody Rhodes took on Chris Jericho for the AEW title. The match was going well, until MJF got involved. As Jericho was applying the Walls of Jericho move, MJF threw in the white towel. It’s a thing in AEW that once the white towel gets thrown in, the match is over. As MJF was then consoling Cody, he decided to low ball him.
This turn came off organically on the show, but it was expected. MJF is one of the best heels in the industry and since AEW began, MJF has been a baby face. If I have learned anything since being a wrestling fan, there are some heels that can’t be a baby face as it doesn’t come off well. An example of this is the Miz in the WWE. He is doing a baby face run and so far, it is not as well as his heel run. MJF is one of the top heels in AEW. In my humble opinion, Chris Jericho is the only better heel wrestler in AEW than MJF.
As far as this feud goes, AEW has a chance to further MJF. You could have MJF cut a promo that he never was truly friends with Cody and was using him. This is incredibly relatable as many people have been through that. This feud can elevate MJF where we could see him challenging for the title in 2020. You don’t need him to join the Inner circle because MJF can hold himself well enough.
AEW Dynamite has been on for a few weeks. In those couple of weeks they have established a few top heels. As of now, you have Jericho, Sammy G, and PAC are the only ones that come to mind. Having MJF fully embrace being a heel is going to be must-see TV.
