AEW: Should there be a mid-card title?

AEW has been around for over a year. In that time, they have changed the landscape of professional wrestling. In addition, they have established three titles. At All Out, Chris Jericho defeated Hangman Page to become the first AEW champion. In the first episode of Dynamite in October, Riho defeated Nyla Rose to become AEW Woman’s Champion. Finally, SCU defeated the Lucha Brothers to become the first AEW Tag team champions. However, we would see Kenny Omega and Hangman Page win the titles, while on the Jericho Cruise.

Personally, I feel there should be a mid-card title. You have several wrestlers like Joey Janela, Kip Sabin, Brandon Cutler, Alex Reynolds, Jimmy Havoc, and a few others who are a long way away from the AEW title. It seems that they have matches on TV, but nothing comes from it. Instead of having them fade to a point that no one cares about them, it would make sense for AEW to bring in a mid-card title. After that, I would not bring in another title at all. One of the many issues that fans have with the WWE is that they have too many titles. As of this writing, they have 18 titles with 23 superstars holding belts. That is insane because there are many belts that fans don’t care about. If I had to give an example of another promotion that has the right amount of belts, it would have to be the NWA. They only have five titles. However, Dave Lagana and Billy Corgin make every belt mean something.

However, there’s an idea you can use to make the AEW mid-card title have importance. If you recall, Impact Wrestling use to have the option X. This was when someone won the X Division title and they were allowed to cash that in for a title shot. You could almost do the same thing with the AEW mid-card title. This way you can give it importance and have the superstars be invested in fighting for the title.
