AEW: The honeymoon phase is not over
We are a few weeks from closing the door on 2019. For the latter part of 2019, there’s been one thing that wrestling fans have been talking about greatly. A majority of wrestling fans have been talking about the Wednesday Night War that is going on between All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and NXT. While this battle has kept up most of the conversation within the wrestling world, there’s been one part of the discussion that seems to be constant is the ratings.
For the first several weeks, AEW was winning the rating battles. Then came Survivor Series and all of sudden we have seen NXT win the ratings battle for the last two weeks. With these two wins, people are thinking that AEW’s “Honeymoon” period is over. While i suspect it is coming to an end, it’s not over yet. People seem to forget that two weeks ago, NXT had the build up for Survivor Series/War Games and then Thanksgiving the week after. This week’s episode will be the telling one for one major reason. You don’t have anything for NXT until Worlds Collide in January and nothing for AEW. If NXT wins again, then maybe it would be worth trying new things for AEW. But i find that unlikely.
I understand why there are ratings (TV Network purposes), but it pisses me off when fans use this to determine a show. Maybe I’m in the minority on this, but I am fan of good wrestling. The ratings are so secondary to me, its a joke. The ratings are important, yes, but I don’t think they should determine a show. As wrestling fans, we should be fans of good wrestling. Wrestling right now is the best we have seen it, we shouldn’t be looking at the ratings so much. As far as AEW, the honeymoon is not over at all,
