AEW: Who should be the main event for Fight for the Fallen?
AEW is set to hold their third event in their history. At Double or Nothing, Kenny Omega took on Chris Jericho in the main event. At Fyter Fest, The Elite taking on the Lucha Brothers and Laredo Kid were the main event. Although, Moxley and Janela had the main event spot (their match was non-sanctioned). While we are still a few days away and the whole card hasn’t been announced, there’s one match that has been announced that should be the main event.
After Cody Rhodes took on his brother, Dustin Rhodes, at Double or Nothing; Cody had the memorable promo. He turned around to Dustin Rhodes and told him he can’t retire yet. He would then announce that there was a match planned for Fight for the Fallen which would see him and a partner of his chosen take on Nick and Matt Jackson, the Young Bucks. Then came the line that turned the emotion level up. He said,” I don’t need a partner, I don’t need a friend….I need my older brother.” Then the match became official that Cody and Dustin Rhodes would take on the Young Bucks.
I’m of the feeling that this should be the main event of the show. While their hasn’t been much of a build, people are already emotionally invested in this match. You have the Young Bucks, who many view as one of the top tag teams in the world. On the other side, who would have ever figured we’d see Cody team up with his brother Dustin again. Dustin Rhodes has been in wrestling since 1988 and has never been the main event. For all of his career, he has hovered around the mid card scene.
I think it would be nice to allow Dustin to be the main event at least one time in his career. Since it seems like his character has a new sense of life, now would be the right time to pull the trigger. Also, if you look at the card there seems to be no match that has people emotionally invested like the tag match.
Fight for the Fallen happens on Saturday June 13,2019. It’s live from Dally’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.
