AEW: Who should be the main event of Double or Nothing?
In 104 days, All Elite Wrestling is set to take over the Las Vegas area for the companies first event under the AEW banner, Double or Nothing. As of this writing, we only know of two confirmed matches. Hangman Adam Page will take on Pac and SCU will take on Cima and two other OWE tag teams. We also saw several matches teased at the Double or Nothing ticket announcement a few days ago. We would see a tease for Kenny Omega/Chris Jericho 2 and Lucha Brothers taking on the Young Bucks.
Now you have wrestling fans trying to figure out which match should close out the historical Double or Nothing. The argument could be made for either of the two teased matches. Personally, I would love to see the Lucha Brothers and the Young Bucks be the match to close out Double or Nothing. There are several reasons why I want this, but there’s one major reason. It would be different. We have seen Omega/Jericho already and it was pretty recent. We saw Omega/Jericho thirteen months ago at Wrestle Kingdom 12. There Wrestle Kingdom match was great and had its moments. I’d be happy if we see Jericho/Omega 2 as the semi-main event.
By having the Lucha Brothers take on the Young Bucks, AEW will have a lot going for them. For starters, you have a storyline already built in. You have the Lucha Brothers trying to prove that they are not the second best tag team in the world, however, they are the best. In addition, we rarely see the tag team division across wrestling ever main event a show. I can’t remember the most recent example.
One of the objectives that AEW set was that their tag team would be treated and booked the right way. As I said on my weekly wrestling show, the Comeback Wrestling show, I would turn around to the four guys in this match and be simple. You are getting 30-45 minutes and that’s it. Both teams are able to tell a good story and you will get one with this match.
