AEW: Why did the Young Bucks lose in the Tag Team Tournament
To open the second episode of AEW Dynamite, we saw the Tag Team tournament begin. In the opening match, the Young Bucks took on Private Party. Prior to the match, everyone predicted that the Young Bucks would sail past Private Party. However in a surprise move, Private Party got the win. They now will be waiting for the winner of Lucha Brothers and the team of Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer shed some light on this move. He said that Nick and Matt Jackson have been sticking to one mindset since AEW began, Since Double or Nothing, the Young Bucks wanted to lose their matches by putting over their opponent. They have never wanted to win since AEW begun. It’s worth noting that they can’t lose because Tony Khan has the final say, but they have wanted to lose. However, it’s not known if they don’t want the feeling that they are Executive VP’s of AEW and they are allowed to always win. You don’t see teams that do this, but at the point in the career that the Young Bucks are at, it makes sense.
The Young Bucks have been atop the tag team scene for years. When you look at Ring of Honor and NJPW, you tend to always hear there names. Between NJPW and ROH, they have held the tag belts eleven times. Just to put that in perspective, Harlem Heat won the tag titles ten titles in WCW. The Dudley Boyz won them eight times in the WWE. When you get to a certain point in your career, you don’t need the belts. At this point, if the Young Bucks don’t win the belts again, I won’t hurt them at all. Matt and Nick Jackson know that there are a lot of promising teams. At this point, they would rather give the rub to as many of the up and coming teams. It began with Private Party on Wednesday.
