AFC East: Who Will Have A Better Season Tua Tagovailoa or Mac Jones?

Talent from the Alabama Crimson Tide is all over today’s NFL. Two of the biggest names to come out of the football program are quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. Both have high expectations in 2021 but who will have the better season?

The Case for Tua

Tua Tagovailoa’s introduction into the NFL didn’t go quite as planned, but he made a minor statement nonetheless. His pedestrian season didn’t resemble his college days and still to this day people are doubting the young QB. However, franchise quarterback often makes a leap in their second year and Tagovailoa is set up for one. He’s got weapons that on paper should be enough to push for a playoff spot. He’ll be in his second year and has already come out looking like he understands the pace of the NFL better. Despite it being “only preseason”, Tua has looked like the same type of player he was at Alabama.

The Case for Mac

Jones took over when Tua left Alabama and has earned a starting nod himself. Unlike Tagovailoa, Mac Jones earned his spot right out of camp. Maybe if Miami had a preseason Tua would have as well, but we have no way of knowing. Does Jones have a better understanding of his role and give them the best shot to win? The Pats might not have the depth at receiver the Dolphins do, but they did pick up Malcolm Perry after being cut by Miami. While Perry might not be considered a starter with New England, it is a mind game move by Bill Belichick. A former player with knowledge of a team’s plays can force changed game plans.

In terms of talent, the Pats might not be there (on paper) but even though Brian Flores is from the school of Belichick, he’s got a long way to go to prove he can keep up with his former boss. Jones has a future Hall of Fame coach leading the way who has been known to get more than expected out of players. Can he do it again with his young QB?

It’s way too easy to tell who will have the better career between Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. However, Week 1 of the NFL season will spark the debate, right off the bat? Who will come out ahead in 2021? Tua or Mac?
