All American: Homecoming: Is Damon A Bit Overboard With The Anger?
Is Damon treating his biological father unfairly? One of the popular storylines surrounding the first season of All American: Homecoming has been the truth regarding Damon Sims and his adoption. Who are his birth parents and why did they give him up? When the answers were finally revealed, Damon acted out, but was he wrong?
At first, it was believed that his adoptive father had an affair with JR’s mother in which she decided to give the baby up due to her husband (Jesse Sr) not wanting to raise another man’s baby. While part of that is true, Damon still didn’t have all the facts.
Learning that you’re adopted has to be tough on any kid no matter what age they find out. But for Damon, he decided to push those emotions to the back. But when he went searching, the answers he found were not of his liking. With his adoptive father dealing with Alzheimer’s, the truth was not going to come from him. After he and JR took a DNA test to see if they were brothers, the mystery just grew bigger. But then, JR’s mother came clean and Damon took his frustrations out on her, JR, and Jesse Sr.
That’s understandable as it was a lot to take it at one time. Your best friend since you came to college just happens to be your brother. While they did reconcile, the mystery was not over. We would later find out that Jesse Sr is indeed Damon’s biological father even though he believed he couldn’t have more kids.

But Damon is working off straight anger and not really paying attention to the facts of the situation. He believed his adoptive father had an affair that resulted in his birth. Everything was hidden from his adaptive mother but three other adults knew part of the secret. In his defense, he does have a right to be angry, but not at everyone.
Damon’s anger towards Jesse Sr is a bit understandable as he feels Jesse Sr gave him up because he chose JR over him. Damon has not thought about how tough of a decision that was for Sr to make. Raising another man’s baby that your wife had an affair with, that’s asking a ton of someone. But Damon is not considering that. All he sees is what he considers to be a betrayal.
But now the full truth is out and yet, he’s adding on to the anger he has towards Jesse Sr. But once again, Damon is not taking the time to consider the facts. First, the man thought his wife cheated and that he could have kids after having a vasectomy. Now, he’s learning right along with Damon and everyone else involved that he is Damon’s biological father. Yes, his wife did have an affair but Jesse Sr is Damon and JR’s father. Can Jesse Sr have a minute to digest all this before Damon has another temper tantrum?
This has to be hard as Damon is figuring out his family life has been a complete lie. However, how does he think everyone else involved feels? Damon is not the only one going through emotions here. He’s not the only one that feels betrayed. Damon has his moments where it’s all about him and this is another case. He needs to take a step back and look at everything and try to deal with his issues. Season 2 will be explosive as more secrets are sure to come out.
