All American: This Nonsense Between Spencer and Billy Must Stop
Anger has been a vital part of All American since its premiere. Spencer was mad at his dad. Billy, angry with his dad. Layla is pissed at her dad, and at times, Olivia is angry at the world. But when does it stop? When will their characters get some actual closer for issues they can’t control?
At the end of Season 3, Spencer and Billy were at odds over Spencer helping Jordan with his football drills. Seems innocent, but training went their a pretty traicy experiment after his concussion, and was told football may never be a part of his life again.
Well, this is a football-based show and we knew that wasn’t going to last long.
With the State Playoffs on the line, Spencer and Jordan began working out together in secrecy. Although Spencer was against it at first. Jordan pushed and pushed. Jordan was determined to get back on the field with or without the help of his friend.
It was later revealed to Billy that Spencer helped Jordan and Billy snapped on Spencer. The initial reaction was worth it but to have it lingering still, just shows how comical all this is.
Jordan is an All-American. Football is his life. To be told he may not play again was life-altering. However, he made it back with hard work. Yes, Billy has every right to be angry but at who? Why Spencer?
What makes this even worse is that Billy covered for Jordan when his drug test was in danger of coming back dirty. So, what’s the difference between what he did and what Spencer did?

An injury could have been catastrophic but there were no contact drills involved. Just two friends playing catch. That’s the part that’s hard to grapple with concerning this storyline. Jordan was never in any real danger while training with Spencer.
Billy screamed at Spencer in the Season 4 premiere that Jordan is not his responsibility. Well, in a sense he is. Jordan and Spencer are close friends. More like brothers than anything. When Spencer was down, it was Jordan who had his back. All he did was return the favor.
But for Billy to have such an attitude is a contradiction. Isn’t Billy the same person who bent the rules for Spencer when he came to Beverly? Isn’t Billy the same coach who needed Spencer to win at Crenshaw? And where was all that anger when Spencer told jordan to see a therapist to help with his depression?
So, despite all of their flaws, Billy is one who should understand where Spencer and Jordan are coming from. This is both of their dreams on the line. It must be hard to think like a coach one second and a father the next. But Billy must also know that Spencer will never place Jordan in a position where it could end badly.
Their beef is stupid. In a way it makes sense but it’s still stupid.
