Animal Kingdom: Should There Be Any Cody’s Left Standing In The End?
Season 6 of Animal Kingdom is less than 2 weeks away and while the new trailer gives off an intense vibe for the final season, fans will be waiting and wondering, who will make it out alive. In most cases with crime shows, of course, this is being billed as their last big score before they can ride off into the sunset. However, these are the Cody’s we’re talking about. A final ride into the sunset may not be in the cards for them.
If you want a poster family for dysfunction, the Cody’s are the true definition. They can’t seem to ever be on the same page. Even when Smurf was alive, the brothers and their nephew were at the necks of one another. Heck, to further describe how crazy they are, the three brothers watched as their nephew killed their own mother. There is nothing these guys won’t do to make it to the finish line in one piece.
But that same “whatever it takes” mentality to win just may be the reason neither of them will make it.
Craig is not a leader. He’s a follow and tends to cling to his brother Deran more than anyone else. While he and Renn are doing their best to maintain a family life, Craig is clearly not fit for that role. He’s still trapped in that phase of wanting to grow up but doesn’t know quite how to do it. Craig surviving means nothing because he needs to be around people directing his life. His survival would be strictly for his kid as the Cody’s have not had much success in parenting.
Deran’s survival is more suitable for the Animal Kingdom storyline. The only thing that hurts Deran is Deran. He’s emotional. He let his boyfriend walk away to save him which went against his family’s wishes, but he’s also at times is the most level-headed one of the Cody’s. He runs his own business and often tries to distance himself from the family dealings.

Pope has probably done the most damage on this show but yet, the fans love him. He’s the quiet leader type but his demons are not of his own. Smurf is the reason why Pope is so withdrawn from everyone else. But still, if it comes down to survival, Pope is more than likely the one to sacrifice himself so everyone else can escape. No kids, no love interest, and Pope, in his mind has nothing to live for. He’s the wildcard.
J, at first, just seemed like the odd man out here. He didn’t grow up around his uncles as his mother Julia kept them separate. J is far from perfect but he’s more like Smurf than any of her sons. His survival will be one of brains. Despite what his uncles think, J is the brains of the operation. His survival is one that viewers will put their money on.
However, each of the Cody boys plays a part in the “family business”. It doesn’t matter if Deran is lovestruck or if Craig can’t seem to leave the drugs alone, they are a team. Pope and J have their long-lasting power struggle going on but family is still family. If Smurf did anything correctly, she did make sure they stayed a unit.
With one last big job, were expecting so many things to go wrong. the Cody’s will have their backs against the wall from the start. Of course, they will fight, defy, and even disrespect one another but when their backs are against the wall, they will do what they have to do to make sure everyone makes it out alive.
Despite everything each has done, do any of the Cody boys deserve to be left standing in the end?
