Apple: Could Rumored AR Glasses Change The World Of Sports?

Apple iPhone lineup

Rumor has it Apple has been working on AR wearables in the form of glasses for some time now. Supposedly they’re looking to evolve past the iPhone and into real-world applications of their apps. Google was working on their version of smart glasses called Google Glass years before this was a thing and now Apple seems to be in on the mix.

Initially, Google made the attempt to bring wearables to the world of tech but did they miss the true market for wearable AR glasses. Should these tech companies reach past their niche markets and on to bigger things like the world of sports? With augmented reality happening in real-time, you could see the world of sports through a whole new lens, pun intended.

Granted there are hundreds of different ways it could go wrong, but that’s on them to develop. However, imagine watching a sporting event live and in real-time then they cut to a highlight of a big play and you actually get a view of what happened from the athlete’s point of view. Fans eat up every chance they get to see new highlights from games, new stats, and a whole new point of view. AR glasses could change how we watch sports if marketed right.

Not only that but imagine being able to toggle between multiple players on the field and seeing the highlights from a whole new angle. It would serve as not only a fan service but a new way to coach for up-and-coming players as well. The hardest part about coaching is not being out there with an athlete to see what they’re seeing and AR could help that.

Apple has a way of taking its tech and making it applicable to everyday lifestyles. Plenty of companies had smartphones, but the iPhone drove the market. Everyone mocked the name iPad and now tablets are part of everyone’s day-to-day. Can Apple be the one that takes something that’s just for tech die-hards and turn it into something that can be used by a wide audience? If Apple truly is looking to replace the iPhone with AR, they better come with the right idea when it comes to marketing them.
