Apple: the Next Generation is an Augmented Reality Generation.

The future is AR. Augmented Reality is here to stay. One of the worst kept secrets from Apple’s next OS would be the focus on AR. When Pokemon Go seemingly kicked the door down, developers woke up to the potential of this tech. Now as technology and needs move forward we’ll start to see the potential become reality. Augmented Reality turns your camera into a live-in workspace and allows you to edit and adjust in a virtual world.

How does this come into play for the average user and not just the game developers? Simple, imagine being a new homeowner. You want to buy new furniture, but you can’t decide if it will look right in the room. Using your phone you could upload 3D models into your workspace and drag and drop them as you see fit. If the tech goes further, imagine being a contractor and being able to enter measurements to create a 3D model for blueprints instead of the 2 dimensions on paper. Before you cut and create, you’d have the ability to preview your work to see it fit seamlessly. Augmented Reality changes the way we work.

Don’t like the color in your new room? Sooner rather than later hardware stores can get in on the movement. It won’t be long before someone like Lowe’s taps into the tech where you can upload a picture and adjust wall colors in your AR world to really make your room pop. Drag and drop light fixtures right into your virtual space to speed along decision making as you shop.

Can’t decide if your backyard is more suited for an above-ground pool or in-ground pool. AR workspaces turn your imagination into reality. From contemplating, to planning, to eventually deciding all without spending a dime in a virtual workspace. Augmented Reality pushes the limits of our imagination from pen and paper to real-world application.

If Apple is focusing on an AR world for their new iOS then it may be a clear indicator of where the company is headed. Augmented Reality takes the clunkiness of virtual reality headsets and immersive worlds and puts it in the palm of your hand. Not only will it change the way we work and create but shows the direction of their later models. To accomplish all this in digital worlds, their focuses needs to be on their handhelds and specifically their cameras. Working in virtual workspaces with subpar cameras probably defeats the purpose of the visual world. Could Apple’s next device feature their largest improvement to date for their camera? I guess we’ll have to wait and see in September when the latest phones are announced.[CMRickTwitter]
