Apple TV+: Can Platonic Fit In Their With Their Comedy Slate?

Seth Rogen & Rose Byrne on Platonic

Apple TV+ has been taking off with a series of comedies and lovable characters. From Ted Lasso to Shrinking, and everything in between, they’ve had their fair share of wholesome fun and shenanigans. They’ve cast a wide net with series such as Central Park and The After Party. However, up until now, they’ve played it pretty safe. From dad jokes on Ted Lasso, to animated musicals of Central Park for the most part it has been clean family fun. Then comes their most recent show Platonic with everyone’s favorite buddy/stoner comedian Seth Rogen.

From Apple TV+

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are old friends who reunite for a hilarious new chapter.

Seth Rogen has been known for comedies that are the opposite of “family-friendly” and that’s okay. His stoner comedies have been some of the funniest parts of comedy as of late. Now the raunchy/over-the-top brand of humor might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it doesn’t make it any less funny. With movies such as Pineapple Express, Neighbors, and Knocked Up, Seth Rogen has hit comedy gold on many occasions so why wouldn’t Apple take a chance?

More Entertainment: Ted Lasso Hasn’t Changed, You Have

If Apple wants to appeal to a younger crowd, then they needed a show like Platonic. Not everything will be something to sit down and watch with uptight family members. Platonic is the same brand of humor Rogen has been known for so why break from that success? The show itself is about two adults hitting their pre-midlife crisis age and coping with the fact they’re no longer their young and fun selves.

Naturally, we see the two characters, Sylvia and Will, revert back to their old ways as if they were teenagers all over again. Staying out late, and partying all night is their way of getting over the boring imperfect lives they’ve settled into. Since it is Seth Rogen there are scenes of drinking and drug use but it toes the line without being too much. Unless she’s the cool one in the family, you’re probably not going to watch this one with your grandmother. It’s no Ted Lasso but the show is hilarious nonetheless.

If you’re looking for a new comedy and love some of Seth Rogen’s other work, then Platonic should be on your Up Next on Apple TV+.
