Apple TV’s The Morning Show

Apple fans have been waiting for any nugget of information on their new adventure into streaming content since the day Apple TV+ was announced. Reportedly coming this fall, there has been little to no information about original programming worth noting except for a couple casting choices and show titles. Finally Apple is pulling back the curtain on at least one show, The Morning Show, with a trailer for the up-and-coming comedy with an outstanding cast.

The Morning Show kicks off a long list of heavy hitters and big names for their new streaming service. Starring Jennifer Anniston, Steve Carrel and Reese Witherspoon it has no shortage of star power but is it enough? Those three individually have fan deep enough fan bases to generate enough buzz in the show. Add them all together and it could be an instant hit. Unfortunately for most, throwing a group of comedic actors together who are separately funny doesn’t always mean they’ll have the on-screen chemistry that will resonate with fans. More often than not the jokes are off, the timing/delivery doesn’t mesh, and the humor feels forced.

While everyone is craving new content on a daily basis, Apple might be a little late to the party. With Hollywood heavyweights like Disney who have a stable of franchises to work with Apple doesn’t have enough out of the gate. Companies and studios are already joining forces to strengthen their claim to the streaming world and Apple right now don’t have the content for demand. Even if The Morning Show is a hit, how can they keep the pace of the Disney+, HBO Max, and Netflix without being price point friendly? With a rumored $9.99 subscription fee Apple will surely be in the middle of the road, and appear to be banking on their fan bases love for their product to carry them through.

The Morning Show looks like it has the potential to be a hit, but can it make it past the first season. Jennifer Anniston knows long term success from her days on Friends. The same goes for Steve Carrell and his days on The Office. But the face of television is changing. Streaming services these days are also feeling the pressure to turn over consistently compelling stories. Even the long standing Netflix staples are coming to an end with viewer fatigue. Will The Morning Show kick off what will be a new wave of television, or is this a short term fix for Apple’s slowly declining value. I guess we’ll see this fall, when Apple TV+ is set to debut
