Apple TV+: The Problem With Ted Lasso Season 4

Ted Lasso Jamie Tarrt and Roy Kent

Now that Ted Lasso is unofficially officially over after the season 3 finale fans can’t help but ask for more. It’s not every day a show as popular as Ted Lasso stops at the height of its popularity after only 3 seasons. They did, it sucks, and we’re not okay with it. The good news is they’ve left plenty of meat on the bone to continue the story going forward as very few stories wrapped up as final. Depending on how you take their tweet, Apple could be teasing their next move on Ted Lasso season 4 or a spin-off show.

Shield your eyes if you’re not caught up on season 3:

Now that that’s out of the way let’s talk about the potential for season 4. There’s a major hurdle to overcome should they go forward with any kind of show. One Jason Sudekeis and co. have gone on to say the story was always written as three seasons and everything leading to Ted’s journey home has proven that. Everyone else, however, is still on the table. If Ted Lasso continues without its title character they’d have to change the name of the show, which is no big deal. Yet, there’s an elephant in the room that we need to discuss.

More Entertainment: Why Jamie Is What Ted Lasso Is About

By the end of season 3, Ted Lasso was about more than the title character. We cared just as much about the supporting characters as we did our main players. At the forefront of the show were Ted and Rebecca. She hired him to ruin her club and instead, he turned it around. However, by the end didn’t we care just as much about Jamie Tarrt and his growth? Did we not care just as much about Sam Obisanya and his journey to reach his potential? Everything Roy did with Jamie, Keeley, and Jamie/Keeley viewers 100% invested in. We loved, hated, then loved Nate again. So the story can go on even without Ted.

Yet, here’s the catch. Any shred of good writing would have Ted make his triumphant return at least 2+ seasons down the road. The only problem is in a season finale/cliffhanger moment, it would leave fans wanting more. More than likely it would be a series finale which would presumably be the spin-off. If it were a season finale, the show’s focus would pivot back to Ted so where would that leave the rest of the story?

Would we go forward with the spin-off seasons? Would it bring back the revival of Ted Lasso season 4? Would both shows co-exist at the same time? While it’s a problem that would need to be addressed, it’s a great problem to have. No matter what direction they go, fans have been anxiously wanting more. The best bet would be the spin-off route without Ted or it might cheapen the sendoff he got. At the very least, they could bring the show back for season 4 and leave Ted out of the first half to make his return but even that would be problematic.

Now, there’s no guarantee the show would even be brought back in any capacity so it’s all hypothetical. No matter what they do they’ve left themselves plenty of options to give fans more of Ted Lasso in some form. Will it happen? More than likely, but only Apple TV+ can make it happen.
