Apple TV+: Time to Gamble on Content
Apple TV+ might be the low man on the totem pole but they have potential. With shows like See, Truth Be Told, and The Morning Show the new to the block streaming service has some solid footing to work with. However, if they want to break themselves from the pack there’s one corner of the market they need to explore, health.
With their focus on the future of wearables with their Apple Watch, the focus is on moving past just cellular devices. Since Apple TV+ is their next big venture, why not pair the two together. If Apple can focus on healthy living as part of its latest streaming ventures they might catch a wave before the rest.
People are all about health and healthy alternatives these days. There’d be a great deal of interest if the company focusing on health and fitness did a docu-series on the progress of tracking people who are on the fad diets. A non-scripted series following something like the ups and downs of the keto diet or plant-based diet would gain viewer interest.
Or if they want to sneak into the world of cooking shows they could hit a stride with as well. A weekly DIY cooking show with a well-known celebrity chef who cooks the latest trending foods and dietary habits would tap their target audience as well.
Even exercise and workout videos with health and fitness experts could pull in subscribers as well. Instructional videos on yoga, meditation, and workouts might sound gimmicky, but with all the apps dedicated to it, and Apple’s direction towards that lifestyle they could be missing out.
While sustainable seasons of quality television might be the key to the streaming wars but every service will have their content. What most will be missing is what separates them from the pack. Apple has the desire to move into the health market. They have the wearable devices to track progress in Apple Watch. Now all they need is the content to fill the spacing between programming.
Apple is clearly pushing towards services and Apple TV+ could be their cash cow. Why not gamble on programming that pulls the rest of cord-cutters towards their service. Sure, network television lives and dies by their prime time programming but the lack of specialty programming is what keeps the old fashion audience on the hook.
If Apple TV+ can have Oprah’s Book Club, then taking the service to a day-to-day necessity shouldn’t be too much of a stretch. Right now, there’s a hole needing filling for every day, non-binge television and health and fitness can fill that gap. Apple and its decision-makers on programming should gamble on these types of shows. At $4.99, there’d be little hesitation on the part of consumers to pay to keep up with trends.
