Are The Cleveland Browns Interested In Signing DeMarco Murray?
The Tennessee Titans have decided that the DeMarco Murray experiment is no longer needed. Thursday, the Titans released the one-time NFL leading rusher making way for Derrick Henry to become the featured back. What this does is leave Murray with options but how many is the question? According to Dawg Pound Daily, the Browns may have interest.
With the Browns ready to stake a claim as an NFL team again with their offseason moves and 2018 NFL Draft ahead, signing Murray may not be a bad idea, depending on the process of course. Murray, signed with the Titans in 2016, had a Pro Bowl season with the Titans after he rushed for 1287 yards and nine touchdowns that season. However, in 2017, Murray gained 659 yards on 184 carries then went down with an injury and that’s when Henry took over.
Should the Browns Sign DeMarco Murray?
With his release, the Browns should make a move. Murray will not get the $6.3 million per he was making with the Titans, but the Browns can offer him a shot at redemption. If Murray can provide the Browns with 180 carries in a split backfield, the Brown’s offense could be a dangerous one. Couple Murray with the addition of Jarvis Landry and Josh Gordon and the possible drafting of Saquon Barkley and the rest of the AFC North will be put on notice.
It’s clear that Murray still has some spark left in him. The Titans ran the ball 443 times with Henry getting 176 of those carries. The league knows that Murray is a workhorse and his production slipped due to a decrease in carries. If given a chance with the Browns, he may see the same workload but the expectations would not be a high as they were with the Titans.
The Browns still have Duke Johnson so that could have Cleveland with the same issue the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles had this past season. A roster full of good backs can only help an offense and with the Browns still undecided on their quarterback situation, this could be a good move as a security blanket.
