Are The New York Jets The Perfect Fit For Aaron Rodgers?

Aaron Rodgers of the NFL potential New York Jets QB

The Green Bay Packers need to move on from Aaron Rodgers. He’s no longer a good fit for the organization. Yes, he’s still one of the top quarterbacks in the league, but the league is catching up quickly. So many other QBs are in the spotlight right now and Rodgers hasn’t led the Packers to the Super Bowl in some time. Throw out the fact he spent the entire offseason doggin’ on his young wide receiver group and dragging the organization into his antics and loyalty be damned, he needs to go. Plenty of teams will need a big-name quarterback and The New York Jets could be one of them. Do they have enough to lure the Packers into a deal?

First and foremost, the only thing stopping Aaron Rodgers from heading to New York is his own ego. As a man doing all he can to prove he’s better than Brett Favre before him, he sure is matching his career stride-for-stride. Between the early rumors of him not wanting to mentor his eventual replacement, the constant contract battles, and now heading to NY, he’s a Wrangle Jeans commercial away from changing his name legally to Favre.

The New York Jets have been slowly acquiring picks and talent over the past few seasons. The problem with that is, they’ve left themselves strapped for cash and need to work out some things before being able to take on a massive deal. Now they could draft another rookie QB and throw him to the wolves, but they should make a play for Rodgers and draft a replacement to groom. Look, NY has been grasping at straws for a rookie quarterback or a past-their-prime veteran who neither gets them over the hump. It’s time they swing for the fences and just go for it. They were so close to a playoff spot this year, but the quarterback position held them back (despite Mike White’s success). It’s late in his career so he won’t require the picks he would’ve in his prime, but it still would cost them a bit.

New York might not be the luxury suite of NFL destinations but it does have the history with its sports teams to have fan support. Top that off with a very competitive AFC East and there’s no reason Rodgers shouldn’t want to go there. Unless he’s looking to beat up on a weak division and walk all over it, the AFC East will provide him the competition needed to close out his career on a high should he elevate the Jets. He would have to beat out Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, and Mac Jones twice a year and have a solid playoff field to get to his next Super Bowl. If he can do it, it would be the high note of his career that already has an impressive resume. Aaron Rodgers might return to the Green Bay Packers. If I’m the New York Jets, I’m swinging for the fences.
