Arrow: Has the future of the show already been revealed?

Arrow has been a long time fan favorite on the CW. The show that spun off so many current DCtv programs is entering it’s seventh season this fall and shows no signs of slowing down. While it has had it’s share of ups and downs the show is as strong as ever. However, as with all shows there has to be an eventual end game.

While every other show on the network is at least 2 seasons behind, the universe itself still has room to grow. Now the question has to be ‘where will they go next?” With the new DC streaming service DC Universe, they have the opportunity to explore new avenues without the demands of network television which will allow them to get more creative.

With his introduction back in season 5, Oliver’s son William has been thrust into the story and even teased viewers with his interest in not only a bow and arrow, but showing fascination with his father as a hero. Yes, they’ve wrote it as his desire to not be alone in the world and fearing losing both parents. However there might be more than meets the eye with this story line.

In the comics, Oliver has a son Connor Hawke who eventually takes up the Arrow mantle. Even on Legends of Tomorrow, they’ve teased a future version of the Green Arrow in only in this version he’s the son of John Diggle and not Oliver. To further that story, season 6 has teased his archenemy and introduced us to the son of Deathstroke Grant Wilson. Are there two potential future Green Arrows?

If DC and the CW want to go that route with their characters, they could have John’s son take over the mantle of Green Arrow then set up another spin-off show with a younger version of Green Arrow with William with a more family friendly tone. There have been plenty iterations with younger sidekick versions of our favorite heroes. The writers have plenty of wiggle room if they decide that Arrow wants to do more. There can easily be stories with these characters for years to come. Even with the aspect of time travel they can revisit old fan favorites if ever they go this route. For that reason alone, DC and their CW shows stay close to the comics as they can. There’s always an element of doing more and having an open canvas to write whatever inspires them. It’s something the cinematic universe could take notes from.[CMRickTwitter]
