Arrow: Thanks To COVID-19, There Was Almost A Season 9

Stephen Amell in Arrow

Fans are still in their feelings over the ending of Arrow. For eight seasons, we were taking on a wild and sometimes confusing ride into the violent world of Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow aka Arrow. But then, in a blink of an eye, he died and the show was over.

While his character received his happy ending with his wife Felicity, his kids off fighting the good fight, and his friends living their lives, there was a chance that it could have been saved with a Season 9.

With COVID-19 still hitting the world strong, Stephen Amil was in his action zone. While in Canada set to film his new show Heels, Amil was told there might be complications with the show and Canada’s two-week quarantine rule.

Knowing he was still in shape and willing to work, Amil reached out to Arrow creator Greg Berlanti and said: “If I’m going to work, let’s just figure out a way to bring Oliver back from the dead”. He went on to explain to Rosenbaum:

I had just gotten to Canada. I was quarantining. I’m back in British Columbia. It feels so familiar after eight years of shooting Arrow. I’m also looking around at the fact that Canada has seen a bit of a bump up in cases which I think is to be expected. The numbers relatively speaking are still so incredibly low and were even lower at the time. In British Columbia, you’re looking at less than 100 cases a day and almost all of them were confined to retirement facilities and prisons. I’m thinking to myself if everything goes to sh*t, why don’t we just do another season of Arrow? Because I want to work.

COVID had crippled the economy, the school system, forced many out of work but there was a chance that it could give Arrow fans their favorite character back. Not a winner in terms of money, life, and education, but a win for TV.

Does it really matter how they would have pulled this off? It’s TV and Oliver has come back from the dead before. Hell, so has a few Arrow characters if we’re being honest.
