Are things over between Doug and Elsa? The final scene in Atypical would have us believe so. Doug, who is still bitter about his wife’s cheating, might be moving on. It’s too early to tell, but things don’t look good for the two.

Elsa has been trying to get Doug to forgive her for her cheating. He’s not having any of it. Elsa lost all that she had because of a stupid mistake. Doug won’t let her forget that. And just when you think progress is made, something prevents him from committing fully.

Doug met Meghan at a group for Autism. Like Sam, Meghan’s daughter is also autistic. Immediately Doug felt a bond with Meghan, as he’s learning to become a better support system for Sam. The two become close. Meghan offers to help Doug with his issues at home. However, she has another motive.

It’s apparent Meghan sees Doug as more than just a friend. She’s gone on dates, only to have him downplay their night out as just a friendly meet up. Doug’s emotions are a bit out of whack. He’s confused about Elsa, so any feelings he might have for Meghan are unclear.

One of the main storylines for Atypical Season 2 was Elsa and Doug. Many thought we’d get a resolution to their situation. There were times the two seemed to be working it out. The issues between them are more than just skin deep. Elsa thinks it’s easy for Doug to turn the page and focus on the future. He’s not so sure.

Obviously, there will be trust issues with Doug when it concerns Elsa. He’s the one who got hurt by her. She betrayed him, and he won’t let her forget that. Meghan offers Doug a fresh start. Whether or not he takes their friendship to the next level isn’t a sure thing.

Doug still cares for Elsa. He’s obviously still a bit hurt. Quite frankly, Doug probably doesn’t know what to do. On Season 3 of Atypical, we’ll hopefully get our answer on their fate. There’s still hope, it just doesn’t look good.
