Avengers Endgame: What’s Next For Sam Wilson/Falcon? (SPOILERS)

Sam Wilson

If you’ve not seen Avengers Endgame, don’t read the following article. The spoilers contained might be a bit too much for one to endure.

Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), also known as Falcon, has been one of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) best friends and sidekicks over the course of the Infinity Saga. He’s the right hand man to Captain America. Well, after the events of Endgame, Wilson is no longer the right hand man.

An old and frail Rogers gave up the Captain America shield. He chose Wilson to take on the role. We’ve been so used to seeing Steve Rogers as Captain America. The finale to Endgame threw everyone for a loop. Sam Wilson is no longer Falcon. He’s now known as Captain America.

In the comics, both Bucky and Sam have taken up the role of Captain America. The MCU seems to believe Wilson is the guy for the job. He’s unlike Rogers since he doesn’t have the serum, which makes it a bit surprising he was chosen over Bucky. Rogers was adamant on giving him the role.

Why did Steve Rogers choose Wilson at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame? Most knew something would happen to Rogers character at the end of the film. And most expected he’d hand over the role to Bucky. Yet, Sam is loyal and has been by Cap’s side for all of the turmoil with the Avengers.

What does this mean for the future of Sam Wilson? We do know that Disney is preparing a Sam Wilson/Bucky show for their new streaming service. This could be the beginning of Wilson’s era as Captain America. With Bucky as Winter Soldier, the two are going to be definitive pair of SHIELD.

It’ll be a tough pill to swallow to not see Evans as Captain America. However, Mackie is deserving to take up the role. He’s been one of the MCU’s more popular secondary characters. Disney obviously has a grand plan for the new Cap, seeing as they didn’t just kill off the character entirely. This bodes well for Mackie, as he’ll have a chance at a starring role.

Don’t count on any solo films for Captain America. With the Disney + service rolling out, expect the Sam Wilson version of Cap to be exclusive to the steaming service. He’ll still be a member of the Avengers/SHIELD, but won’t be on the big screen. There are plenty of storylines to go with in a new series for Captain America as well.

One of Captain America’s biggest foes was. Baron Zemo. While his biggest conquests have involved Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson could be the main protagonist in a story arc. Zemo is the founder of the Masters Of Evil. This could very well be one of the antagonists of Phase 4.

It’s just going to take some getting used to Sam Wilson being Captian America. Out of all the Avengers Endgame moments, this could have been the most touching. Seeing Rogers hand over the shield to his friend got a lot of fanboys in the feels. While Wilson or Mackie will never be as good as the original Cap or Evans, it’s time a change was made. This is a good way to freshen up the MCU while keeping one of their marquee heroes.
