Avengers: Infinity War: Black Widow And Captain America In A Relationship?
Each member of the Avengers at one point has had to deal with some sort of love interest. Iron Man has Pepper, Thor has Jane, hell, even Spider-Man has Mary Jane. But what’s the deal with Black Widow and Captain America? Yes, Cap had Peggy but while he was frozen, she aged and eventually dies. Then Cap tried to date her niece and that didn’t work out so well. Black Widow was obsessed with Bruce Banner but he looks more like a father figure than anything. Which leaves us with a specific scene in Avengers: Infinity War.
Since Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow has been side-by-side with Captain America when she was initially with Iron Man. However, when Team Cap arrived to save Scarlet Witch and Vision, there she was still by Cap’s side two years later. While that doesn’t say much, Sam’s “awkward” did. It was subtle and may have been missed but when Banner walked into the room, the greeting Natasha gave him was not one of “I missed you” but more along the lines of “You missed out”.

There’s nothing wrong with that. There were moments in the past where they had their chances but Steve turned her down. Maybe now after a few failed attempts at relationships, they both decided to give it a go. But why the secrecy? For one, no one knew where Banner was at. And for their relationship to go forward, Natasha and Banner had to see each other. The last thing Steve wants is a showdown between Captain America and The Hulk for Black Widow’s love.
There is no way you can deny their chemistry as it was clear in Captain America: Winter Soldier on the escalator scene where they shared a kiss and again at the hospital. But it was in the car during their trip to New Jersey where the real chemistry kicked off. You could tell there was something there but Steve was just on some mission first nonsense and sort of placed Natasha in the dreaded friend zone. So, since she couldn’t have Captain America, she turned her attention to Banner.
Now, years later, they’ve been side-by-side and who’s to say that nothing has transpired. It was just something in their body language when they were onscreen together that gave off that vibe. No one time during Infinity War did Black Widow ask about Banner or anything.
I mean hey, as a Captain America fan, I think it’s about time he found some type of normal life.
