Baltimore Orioles: It may be time to move on from Buck Showalter

The Baltimore Orioles are having a historically bad season. As of August 16, 2018; they are 36-85 and stand 49.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox. It’s getting bad enough that they may be pulling something off that hasn’t happened since 2003. Before that, it didn’t happen since 1962. The Orioles are on pace to be the 22nd team in the modern era to have less than 50 wins in a season. The most recent one occurred back in 2003 when the Detroit Tigers went 43-119.

Unfortunately, the Baltimore Orioles are not going to be a competitive team for some time. They are beginning the rebuilding process. We saw this process start around the trade deadline when guys like Manny Machado, Zack Britton, and others were dealt. It seemed that the Orioles were willing to take anyone for certain guys. With the fact that the team is going in a new direction, they might want to go another route with their manager. Buck Showalter has been running the team for the last eight years. It’s worth noting that out of his 20 years of being a MLB manager, this is his longest tenure. However, it may be time to make a move.

The Baltimore Orioles have been going downhill over the last two years. It seems that they are rebuilding, so why not bring in a new coach? You could look at possible managers like Mike Matheny or Joe Girardi. Those two are proven winners. I wouldn’t fire Showalter outright through. It seems that Orioles management does like him, I would go the route that the Mets did with Terry Collins. I’d have Showalter retire and take a role within the front office. It makes sense to move on from Showalter because it seems Orioles management is starting to rebuild.

Who would you want the Orioles to replace Buck Showalter with after the season, let us know in the comments.
