Baltimore Ravens: Can Lamar Jackson Get past the One and Done Season?

Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson is having one heck of a season. He’s breaking records, the Ravens are winning, and he’s in the discussion for MVP. Some have the Baltimore Ravens as the favorites to win the Super Bowl this year. Unfortunately, we’ve seen this before. There have been plenty of quarterbacks who have had a season that defied all logic, only to regress a year later.

Colin Kaepernick made the San Francisco 49ers look like the next big thing, only to have one of the worst seasons for the franchise.

RGIII was the savior of the Washington Redskins, then went down with an injury and was never the same again.

On the flip side of things, Russel Wilson has been the bright spot for the Seattle Seahawks. A former Super Bowl champ, he’s kept the ‘Hawks in the hunt in bleak seasons.

Going back a little further, Michael Vick had success with the Atlanta Falcons, then after his suspension and reinstatement, continued on with the Philadelphia Eagles.

So the real question is, which quarterback will Lamar Jackson be? This season has been a strong indicator of both fronts. Jackson is breaking records and looking like the next best thing. Then the games he struggled he looked like the other brand who has had fall off-seasons. At times he’s inconsistent, but the Ravens are getting the job done.

Baltimore is a team that needs to have consistency. The shake-ups in their roster are keeping them from being consistently a playoff team in a weak AFC. Jackson has all the tools to be a winner in today’s NFL but the run-and-gun style quarterback is so hit or miss. All it takes is one offseason of highlights and the next big thing is benched within two seasons. Lamar Jackson is turning heads, but can it last?
