Best of Netflix: Critic Favorites Pt 1 – tick, tick… BOOM!
Everyone loves Netflix for series such as Orange Is The New Black and Stranger Things, but there are plenty of movies that gain popularity along the way like Knives Out and Red Notice. Still, there are always some that get plenty of attention from critics but some audiences may need a nudge towards. tick, tick…BOOM! is one of those movies that you might have heard of but were slow to give a try. Many critics and audiences enjoyed the Andrew Garfield-led drama, but casual audiences might be slow to hop on board.
First, you have to be into musicals. It’s not the one song to the next, full sing-a-thon. The majority of the plot is story driven rather than original scores advancing the scenes.

From IMDb.com:
On the cusp of his 30th birthday, a promising young theater composer navigates love, friendship and the pressures of life as an artist in New York City.
Andrew Garfield takes the next step in his career in tick, tick.. BOOM! He’s always had the acting range but this one was a step above his usual role. Fans will recognize him from movies The Amazing Spider-man and more recently the MCU in Spider-man: Far From Home but there’s more than just a superhero in this young man’s repetoire. Garfield is joined by Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, and Robin de Jesus in a man’s struggle for greatness, balance, and the free spirit that drives his passion.
tick, tick… BOOM! is an energetic and emotional movie dealing with some heavy topics but is balanced out by up beat and fun numbers that keep the story fresh. No movie, especially musicals, is without it’s ups and downs but at it’s core it’s a movie about love, friendship, and passion. Despite those being the central themes, we see just how much those things influence the world around us. Andrew Garfield has always been an actor I’ve enjoyed, but tick, tick…BOOM! made him one of those actors who I’ll always turn on if he’s in it. The subject matter might not be universal, but there are definately things we can all relate to and Garfields performance really drives them home.
