Best of Netflix: Hidden Gem Movies Pt 1 – Burnt

Netflix movies Burnt

If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly digging through your streamers for new content to watch. Of course, there’s always the go-to and the ones that everyone is talking about, but often times those lead to expectations. You want ones that not everyone is talking about but still, need someone’s opinion on it before you take the dive. There are plenty of hidden gem movies, some of which end up being the best of what you’ve watched in a while and we’re here to bring them to you. The first such movie is currently on Netflix in the form of 2015’s Burnt starring Bradley Cooper.

From IMDB.com

Adam Jones is a chef who destroyed his career with drugs and diva behavior. He cleans up and returns to London, determined to redeem himself by spearheading a top restaurant that can gain three Michelin stars.

I don’t know how a Bradley Cooper film can fly under the radar. There’s hardly a movie that he’s been in that you’ve walked away disappointed in. That’s honestly the first and only reason I gave it a chance as I’d never even heard of Burnt. As expected, Bradley Cooper was the strength of the movie. That’s not to say the rest of the cast was poor, they weren’t. However, it’s the emotion that Cooper brings to the table and how he seamlessly moves from one to the next that draws you into the story. The concept of the film isn’t anything new. It has easily been a staple for rom-coms and other dramatic films in the past.

When you’ve seen a story before it either needs to be done with a new twist, or the characters have to pull you in. With his intensity, Cooper draws you to his character with his passion for his craft which most could only hope for. Despite his cocky arrogance, there’s still the idea that you’re rooting for him despite his mistakes along the way. Burnt isn’t just relatable to the hardcore chefs of the world. It portrays the passion for any craft and the desire to perfect it at any cost. It’s for those who will do anything to succeed and see the bigger picture despite feelings along the way. Not in a malicious or deceptive way, but with a true passion for the best of the best.

Out of all the movies I’ve watched this year, Burnt is near the top of the list. Having gone into watching it with zero expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by this under-the-radar film from 2015.
