Beyoncé Needs to Play Whitney Houston In Upcoming Biopic
With biopics being all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before one focused on the up and down lifestyle of Whitney Houston. From Tupac Shakur to Elton John, Freddie Mercury to Judy Garland we’ve seen every genre represented. With a career filled with hit songs, movie roles, and all the spotlight artists dream. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows in her career out of the spotlight. With a larger than life persona, Whitney Houston needs someone just as large to fill her shoes, someone like Beyonce.
When you look back at the career paths of the two megastars they’re damn near identical. Phenomenal music career? Check. Acting roles that gained critics praise? Check. Power couple that hit a few bumps along the way? Check. The one thing that separates Beyonce from Whitney Houston was the black eye on her career, the drug use that derailed her career.

When it comes to music even, you could flip flop Beyonce to the ‘80s and ‘90s and Whitney Houston into the ‘90s and 2000s and you would have no problem believing them singing the others songs. A young Houston could easily sing Single Ladies, and Beyonce would have no trouble with I’m Every Woman. Talent for talent, Beyonce is this generation’s Whitney already so playing her in a feature film shouldn’t be hard to pull off at all.
The one hold up that would throw this biopic off would be the audience’s familiarity with Beyonce. Her roles as an actress have made her even more of a household name. Before she was sometimes only recognized with fans of her music, which was limited to her genre despite so many people loving her style. Her fame took it to the next level with roles in Dreamgirls, Cadillac Records, and voice acting in The Lion King remake. She is one of the few female artists who carries the same legendary status as Houston.
The upcoming biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody is in the works. With a career spanning two decades and seven studio albums, the story of Whitney Houston should be a hit with music lovers. Her biopic might not need to have someone with the star status as a Beyonce, we’re just saying it will be a whole lot better if it did. Hell, we’d buy a whole soundtrack of Beyonce singing old Whitney songs, especially if Jay-z raps over a track or two.
