Black Panther 2: Why Aja Naomi King Should Be The Next Storm

Black Panther 2

With Black Panther 2 expected to be another blockbuster for Marvel/Disney, casting is still not done for the sequel. Earlier in the week, rumors began to fly that singer Beyonce was in talks with Disney for a three-movie deal to pay her over $100M. Ther reason that is so important is the fact that many believe she will take over the role of Storm in Black Panther 2.

Fans of Beyonce are thrilled. However, Marvel just can’t go on what the “Bey-Hive thinks. They must look closer at what they have done over the years and continue that trend. Instead of going with a big name like Beyonce, they should stick to their script and find a suitable and capable actress to take on such a commanding role. One name that comes to mind is Aja Naomi King from How To Get Away With Murder.

During the early X-Men days, Storm was played by Halle Berry and even she didn’t give off that true essence of what Storm brought to the team. When Fox decided to give the series a reboot, they went with Alexandra Shipp who added more spunk but yet, she still fell short of capturing the bravado in which Storm was built on.

Bringing in King will be the icing on the cake for Black Panther 2.

Aja Naomi King was everything that Storm was while she played Michaela Pratt on the hit ABC show for six seasons. She’s fearless, determined, a leader, and will easily slide into the role of the love interest of T’Challa way better than Beyonce will. Besides, how many viewers will want to cringe at any action scenes we may be forced to watch with Beyonce?

It’s a fact that big names sell tickets. But this is Marvel we’re talking about and Black Panther 2 already has a cult following. Think back. Who were Letitia Wright (Shuri), Chris Evans (Captain America), or even Chris Hemsworth (Thor) before they got their BIG break with The Avengers? King already has a nice following and can easily transition into the role of Storm.

The one thing Fox did do right was keeping Storm dark-skinned. And the last time I checked, Beyonce’s skin-tone does not match the original Storm. While a huge name may be big for audiences, this is not about them. Bringing in the wrong actress to play such an iconic role could ruin not only the movie but the portrayal of Storm for the foreseeable future.

King is 35 years old and there is a great chance the storyline she builds in Black Panther 2 could lead to other spots in future Marvel movies.
