Borderlands 3: We Don’t Mind the Wait for DLC
Borderlands 3, one of the most fun games to ever be played, released another themed event this past Thursday. So far its the second of their holiday-themed event on top of their one DLC expansion. This time it’s a much smaller Valentine-themed event that runs only one week. The previous Halloween theme lasted over a month with many more challenges.
The bright spot in this event is the max-level cap that adds just three additional levels. Extending the cap to 53 from 50 isn’t winning over too many of the hardcore gamers, but in the longevity of the game, it makes way more sense. While the Handsome Jack DLC wasn’t a huge update as well, it was enough to fend off the demand for more.

While Borderlands 2 stuck with the more season pass approach Borderlands 3 seems to be spreading out smaller updates more often. That could be where fans are turned off despite the quality of the events. With their season pass approach to DLC, Borderlands would release DLC each quarter that would feel like it was a whole new game. On top of that, they added an extra skill tree with each vault hunter.
Now Borderlands 3 is going a different route. This time around instead of big bulky content they’re sticking to month releases and rewards so far. With Christmas gifts leading up to the holidays, a Halloween event, and now a Valentine’s it appears we’ll get more skins and themed weapon releases. Then when the bulk of these holidays themes are used up, that’s when they’ll drop their major release for their DLC, probably right around the time of E3 to get some much-needed face time with fans and people still not playing the game.
The push for DLC might be a turn off for some but so far each event has been worth playing. The Valentine’s event might have been burned through before the weekend is over, but the end game proving grounds still is a lot of fun to grind for gear. Now that the game has increased the level cap, the gear and bosses have been much tougher as the mayhem levels increase.
There have been some new guns added to the game as well as higher levels of the ones we’re currently running with. If the next DLC is worth the wait, fans will be more than satisfied with the stall for the major content.
