Breaking News: Legendary comedian Don Rickles has passed away
The entertainment world lost another icon today. Several outlets are now reporting that legendary comedian Don Rickles has passed away at the age of 90. It is being reported that he passed away due to liver failure. He was one month shy of turning 91.
Don Rickles career spanned over six decades. He was born on May 8, 1926, in Queens, New York to Joseph and Frances Rickles. He grew up in a Jewish household and his family spoke Yiddish. After he graduated High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and served during World War 2. He would be honorably discharged in 1946. He would end up beginning his comedian career in the 1950’s while working in Miami. It would be then where he would meet legendary singer Frank Sinatra.
In the 1960’s, he would end up appearing on several television shows like Get Smart and Run for your Life. These would end up being more a recurring role. It would also be in the late 1960’s where he became a fixture on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Then as his career went on, he would still entertain people by being an insult comic. It would be worth noting that this was how he got the nickname, Mr. Warmth. In the 1990’s, he would also take on the role of Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story franchise. It would be interesting to see what they do with the Potato head character in Toy Story 4.
If you created a Mount Rushmore of Jewish comedians, I would say he would certainly be on the list. He had such an impact on many generations from his comedy routines to his movies roles. All I know is he will be missed by all his fans. As someone who is a fan of his work, I just want to say Thank You to Don Rickles for bringing laughs to his fans.
