Brooklyn Nine-Nine: We’re Going To Miss It When It’s Gone
Like most, I was heartbroken when I heard this season would be the last of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Despite being saved by NBC with a little more freedom than at Fox, the show will be wrapping up its final season starting tonight. There’s so much to love about this show and everything it involves, here’s what we’ll miss most:
The Cast:
This one is obvious for many reasons. There isn’t a single character on this show that was incorrectly cast. The actors play so well off each other and at times, each and every one of them was a favorite of mine. What made the connection to the characters so special was the actor’s ability to make it feel natural. When a cast and crew can put something together without it feeling forced, it really hits on every note.
The Guests
Mark Evan Jackson, Craig Robinson, and Jason Mantzoukas have some of the best pop-up appearances of the show. Then there are the guests as well. There was a New Girl crossover, Eva Longoria was on for a bit, Damon Wayans Jr did a guest spot. The list of quality actors that filtered in and fit right in made it a treat.
The Heists
No episode was more anticipated than the (Halloween) Heists. These Ocean’s 11-esque episodes that became a break from the usual story-driven episodes kept your on your toes. Who was working with who, who was betraying who, and who was going to win it, in the end, it was just an upward spiral of chaos and fun?

The Cold Opens
To this day, nothing is as funny to me for a cold open then the lineup that sings “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. I find myself busting out in song whenever someone utters “tell me why ..”. Sometimes these throw-away opens had me in stitches and some perfectly mapped out an episode.
Title Of Your Sex Tape
It’s odd that something so juvenile could make us laugh so much. The awkward timing came just at the right times. What made the phrase continuously funny is it wasn’t something that was overdone. Just the sneakiness of it alone was catchy enough that I almost chime in at work, but that’s a whole HR meeting I want to avoid.
The Emotional Episodes
So many episodes had me in stitches, but that wasn’t the only thing that kept the show fun. There were real moments of Brooklyn Nine-Nine that had enough emotion to keep us following these characters. Episodes like “Show Me Going”, “Moo Moo”, and “Game Night” challenged the audience to not only laugh along but reflect as well. Again, one of the strengths of Brooklynn Nine-Nine was to pull off these types of episodes without feeling too forced or unnatural, which is a huge testament to the actors and writing department.
Maybe it’s best the show wraps up while still on a high. Maybe in a PC world, it’s best to walk away from such a touchy subject in the current landscape. There are plenty of reasons for a show to end, but this one will always be on repeat when there’s nothing else on.
