Bryce Harper Would Have Looked Really Good In Giants Orange
The San Francisco Giants could have had Bryce Harper. The 26-year-old committed to the Philadelphia Phillies for 13 years. This includes no opt-out clauses. It’s an investment, to say the least, one that would have benefited the Giants in the long run
Harper could have helped the Giants sell tickets and win games in the future. While 13 years is one hell of a commitment to a player, San Francisco could have done it. They have a market players will want to play in. Having Harper would have made it so much easier to recruit players to the Bay Area.
Harper is only 26. That’s more than enough time to win a World Series before his prime years are finished. Obviously getting Harper would have been a long-term move for the Giants. San Francisco needed him to sign just by looking at the roster right now.
The Giants outfield, it’s quite a mess. You have Chris Shaw, Steven Duggar, and Austin Slater as the starting outfield. None of these players are franchise cornerstones. Your outfield needs so much work. The Giants needed this.
Who wouldn’t have wanted Bryce Harper? He’s had some record-breaking seasons. You can blame it on California’s tax rate. To match what the Phillies gave him, the Giants would have needed to pay upwards of $365 million to acquire him. That’s a lot more than San Francisco was willing to spend.
San Francisco is a proud baseball town. They’ve won World Series rings before. Right now things are a bit tough for the team. Bryce Harper would have jumpstarted the rebuild. He’s one of the best players in baseball. With this being his age 26 season, there will be plenty of baseball left to be played in his career.
The Giants could have had their Barry Bonds of the new generation. Harper is that kind of player. He’s bigger than the game of baseball. Bonds put San Francisco at the forefront of the sports world. Harper would have had the same effect. Nothing against guys like Buster Posey, but he’s not the star that Harper is.
McCovey Cove would be rocking if Bryce Harper came to the Bay Area. The Giants really missed out. It sucks for the San Francisco fans. They had a chance to see one of the best talents in the game today on a nightly basis. The Giants will move on and find an alternative solution. If all else fails, there’s always Mike Trout.
