Buffalo Bills: Is It a Make or Break Season for Josh Allen?
The Buffalo Bills made a huge splash this offseason when they traded for wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Adding a much-needed playmaker was priority one for the Bills this offseason and they knocked it out of the park. Buffalo has struggled to find consistency at the receiver position slowing the development of quarterback Josh Allen.
Not that Allen has been bad, but in year three if the Bills want to be successful then they need their quarterback to get to the next level. He’s proven to be enough to get the team into the playoffs, finishing the season at 10-6, but when it comes to the playoffs he’s still got a little ways to go.
With receivers like Cole Beasley, John Brown, and Stefon Diggs their offense will have plenty of targets at each level of the field. Devin Singletary could provide solid work out of the backfield but Buffalo might want to grab a mid-round running back if one of the top tier guys isn’t there when they select with their first pick at 54.
More Bills: Allen Is Reason For 3-0 Start
Also one of the biggest areas of need for Allen is a top talent at tight end. There’s always a need for a dump off a man when plays get blown up. Throwing the ball away isn’t the worst thing in the world, but momentum is key when it comes to playoff games. Moving the chains and chipping away will be key to keeping their footing with the teams who can score at will come playoff time.
If the Buffalo Bills can create opportunity at those two positions in this year’s NFL draft then it almost has to be a make or break year for Josh Allen. He’s got all the talent and all the right tools. With Tom Brady out of the division, someone will have to step up and take over that division. The Bills have given Allen all he needs to succeed, it’s up to him to step up and be the winner they expect. If he can’t get to the next level, it might be time for the Bills to consider moving on.
