Buffalo Bills: Is It Time To Build Around Josh Allen After His First Win?

The Buffalo Bills may have finally found their replacement after letting Tyrod Taylor go in a trade to the Cleveland Browns this offseason. After a tough QB battle in Training Camp between 2017 pick Nathan Peterman and 2018 pick Josh Allen, it seems the debate is finally over. Well, at least for one week it is. While Bills coach Sean McDermott has said that Allen is his starter until further notice, Allen may have made his coach a prophet against the Vikings.

Allen, in his first road start of his short career, did just as well as any other rookie QB this season. Against the Vikings’ defense, Allen passed for 196 yards, one touchdown through the air while running for two more. He displayed the arm and skills that had many thinking he would go No.1 before slipping to 7th.

But all that is under the bridge. He’s officially an NFL QB. Now, the Buffalo Bills have to decide what the future holds.

Will they take the same route they did with Taylor and provide him with fast receivers and an aging RB? Or, will they hit the free agent market and Draft and build from the ground up? The Buffalo Bills are in the same position the San Francisco 49ers are in. They will have the money this offseason to spend and quite possibly a high 2019 NFL Draft pick, but will the make the right decisions?

The 49ers completely laid an egg this past offseason by not getting the proper weapons Garoppolo needed to succeed this season. And the result has shown as the Niners and Jimmy G have struggled. Now, what Josh Allen did may be a sign of things to come, or it could be a fluke. His career at Wyoming was average at best, but in his first two starts, it’s been proven the kid can play.

The Bills will need to find a reliable RB and they should not have to waste a first-round pick on one. They will need to address their offensive line and receiver position. Kelvin Benjamin was a waste of a trade and has provided the Buffalo Bills nothing since arriving from the Carolina Panthers. What the Bills will have to figure out is if this is the real Josh Allen or just one of those games where everything just went right.

If Allen can duplicate his actions a few more times this season, the Bills will have no choice but to plan to build around their new face of the franchise with hopes they have found the next Jim Kelly.
