Buffalo Bills: Stefon Diggs Is Ready To Take Center Stage
The Buffalo Bills are set to become the team to beat in the AFC East. With Tom Brady off to Tampa Bay, this is the time where Josh Allen has to take a stand. Last season, one of the Bills’ biggest weakness was their receiving core. This offseason, a trade was made that landing them the explosive Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings.
His time with the Vikings placed Diggs in the class of good up and coming receivers in the NFL. In 2019, Diggs caught 63 passes for 1130 yards and six touchdowns. Great numbers but it’s his 17.9 yards per catch that will provide the Bills with stability. Pairing Diggs with John Brown will give Allen the deep threats he needs to take that next step.
If Stefon Diggs can continue his upward climb into elite status, the Bills will be hard to defend. With Cole Beasley not viewed or respected as a true No. 2 option, defenses were able to either double Brown or stack the box against the run last season. However, with Diggs, the Bills’ offense will have a different look.
Big numbers are expected out of Diggs in 2020 and rightfully so. In 2018, Diggs caught over 100 balls and now as the main threat in an offense short on playmakers, this is his time to separate himself from the rest and put Allen and the Bills in the driver’s seat in the East.
The Bills will still lean heavily on the ground game as they finished the 2019 season ranked 6th in attempts and 8th in yards. Now, imagine the running lanes that will be open now that Diggs is on the opposite side of Brown. Although the Buffalo Bills lost their Wild Card game against the Houston Texans, this offseason they made the proper steps to get over that hurdle.
Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen are not on the same level as Jim Kelly and Andre Reed but give them time. They might shock the world.
