Burt Reynolds, Actor In “The Longest Yard” Has Died at the Age of 82

Burt Reynolds

The entertainment world lost a major icon on Thursday afternoon. It was reported through various media outlets that actor Burt Reynolds had passed away at the age of 82. These sources are also saying that a heart attack was the cause of his death. He was born in Lansing, Michigan. However, he was claiming that he was born in Waycross, Georgia for most of his career. However, he would move a lot during his childhood as his father was drafted into the US Army. After World War 2 ended and Burt’s father came home, they would end up moving to Riviera Beach, Florida. Here is where he would get the attention of many colleges for football.

He would end up going to Florida State University on a football scholarship. He would end up playing halfback. While he was on the team, he would end up becoming roommates with ESPN College Football analyst, Lee Corso. After dealing with injuries that derailed his career, he decided to walk away in 1957.

After trying out a few side things, he would end up going into acting. This is what put him on the map as he was an actor from 1958 until 2018 when he died. Personally, I find it interesting that he was able to find success in both the TV side and the film side of the entertainment industry. He was more known for his films as he would appear on single episodes of TV shows.

Over his nearly five decades in Hollywood, he appeared in both the original and remake of the Longest Yard, Hustle, Smokey and the Bandit, Dukes of Hazzard, and many others. While he was known for being a great actor in any film he was in, there was something else he was known for. He and Tom Selleck are two of the only people who come to mind known for their mustaches. Burt’s mustache became a part of the Burt Reynolds persona.
