\At one point, video killed the radio star with the birth of MTV. Kindles have done damage to libraries and bookstores. Cell Phones have done their damage to computers, televisions, and navigations. However, we can start saying that online shopping has killed the book and mortar stores.

There have been a ton of stores that have closed in 2019 and the reasons all vary. Some of them include not reaching company standards or making a profit. However, it seems that with the rise of sites like Amazon, stores are giving no option that closing down several stores. We can add GameStop to the list. They announced during their conference call that 180-200 stores will be closing within the US and abroad. It’s worth noting that Gamestop operates more than 5,700 stores in fourteen countries. The reason they gave was underperforming. While that may be the case, it’s not the only reason why they are closing so many stores. This other reason isn’t proven, but you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out the bigger picture with places GameStop.

With the rise of sites like Amazon, Overstock, and others; consumers have it easy. They don’t need to get into their car and drive to get what they need. You are seeing people buy their video games online now because it’s easier. Unfortunately, this will become the norm in our society. As more and more people use the internet to shop, stores won’t be necessary. It also becomes sad because then people will be out of a job. As we have seen it, getting a job isn’t easy and now more people will be applying.

GameStop has been around since 1984. In the early days, GameStop was originally called Babbage’s. Another reason why this move is interesting is that in 2017, GameStop made 9.225 billion dollars in revenue.
