California’s Great America Might Be Getting A New Coaster After All

California Great America

It appears that California’s Great America will be getting a new coaster after all. After a failed attempt to get a giga-coaster (that went to Kings Island), the Northern California park has something in the pipeline.

This coaster won’t anything on the scale of a giga, but early rumors suggested it would be 210 feet tall. That also needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Even with CGA filing a permit for a 210 ft. coaster, the park may opt to build something completely different.

According to Screamscape, California Great America is possibly designing a multi-launch coaster for 2021. The park has an FAA variance to build the 210 ft coaster for the 2020 season, so if the multi-launch coaster is to be built for 2021, we won’t be getting the hyper. At least, not unless CGA extends the variance.

A multi-launch coaster isn’t new for Cedar Fair. They just built Copperhead Strike for Carowinds. It’s possible they’ve decided to build a similar coaster at CGA. Since its opening in mid-March, Copperhead Strike has been met with great reviews.

There is the off chance California Great America builds both the 210 ft hyper and the multi-launch. It’s rare, to say the least, but these things have happened. Cedar Fair has shown interest in expanding CGA. Given the companies, new strategy of building big coasters not as frequently, giving CGA two in two years isn’t likely.

A lot of investment has gone into California Great America. It’s one of the properties Cedar Fair has set on becoming a marquee park. They just received Railblazer, the RMC T-Rex coaster. Aside from pulling the giga project, CGA has been on the upswing. A new coaster is indeed coming, but what will it be?

Count on something new for 2021. We’d be getting a lot more info or clues if the park were indeed to open a 210 ft. coaster next year. The idea of two coasters in two years is great, but it’s not going to happen. At least California Great America is getting something new and Cedar Fair still wants to invest in the park.
