Can the Buffalo Bills Win It All In 2023?

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills have been knocking on the door of the Super Bowl for a couple of years now. Despite their efforts, they have fallen short three years in a row after winning the division. Will the fourth time be the charm?

Buffalo has turned the corner ever since they drafted Josh Allen. They finally have a quarterback who can lead a division and he has. Yet it wasn’t until the team reached a deal to bring in Stefon Diggs for them to take the division over. Now they run stride for stride with teams like the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Now the biggest problem is just as good as the Bills have become, teams in the conference have caught up.

So now the bigger question is, can the Buffalo Bills defense keep up with the heavy hitters of the AFC?

Of course, as the old saying goes, “defense wins championships”, there’s a key component that might just push Bfaullo to the next level. One of the smartest moves the Bills could’ve made was drafting tight end Dalton Kincaid. No, the rookie won’t be the sole reason the Buffalo Bills win a championship, however they just may have solved their riddle.

Maybe it took learning from the Kansas City Chiefs for the Bills to address their holes on offense. While Dawson Knox has been solid for the Bills, his inconsistency isn’t doing Buffalo any favors. While Knox is just one of many targets on a team that features WR Stefon Diggs, an elite talent, the Bills need more opportunities at the tight end position.

Why? Well the problem with a great player such as Diggs is it’s easy to cheat to his side of the field and help with coverage if no one else is consistently a threat. Thats not to say you don’t have to keep defenders on the rest of the Bills receivers, but none of them consistently torch defenses like Diggs.

That’s Buffalo’s biggest problem. More guys can make plays in crunch time and at times their receivers take advantage of defense, but with elite competition in the AFC, opposing teams can do the same.

Rewind back to the Chiefs and Bills game two years ago. Buffalo made some great plays, scored at will, and made a hell of a push for the win but ultimately lost in overtime due to a coin flip.

That same game, the Chiefs were able to pick apart a prevent defense, control the clock, and set up the big play to send it to overtime. While Kansas City had the big plays in their arsenal, they controlled the football by controlling the clock. They were never really out of that game. You can say their defense was fatigued to finish the game, but if the offense was able to slow down and utilize the clock to their advantage, the defense might not have had to rush right back out on the field.

Buffalo has a solid defense, but opponents have just as good offenses as the Bills defense. They should’ve learned from years of playing Tom Brady. The only way to stop an elite quarterback is to take the football out of their hands. If the Buffalo Bills can use Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid properly, Buffalo could easily win a championship.
