Can the Miami Dolphins Win the Division?
The Miami Dolphins are on a roll to the tune of 5 wins in a row. While the wins against the Jets and Jaguars were sprinkled in, they outlasted a close game with the Cardinals. They blew out the 49ers and came up big against an underrated Chargers team. Sitting half a game out of first place in the division, everyone’s left to wonder if they can win it.
Miami has been without key pieces in the past few weeks. Between Covid and injuries players like Preston Williams, Devon Godchaux, and now Christian Wilkins among others have been kept out. While their play has suffered here and there, Miami is still finding ways to win football games. Key defenders have been out and they’re still getting takeaways. Playmakers on offense are missing time and they’re still finding ways to move the football. The “next man up” seems to be working.
Looking ahead to the rest of their schedule, of their remaining seven games only three of them have a winning record. They face a tough Chiefs team, a streaky Raiders team, and the current division-leading Buffalo Bills. Toss in games against the 3-win New England Patriots and the 0-9 New York Jets there’s a chance to even out their divisional losses. Still, they’ve got the Denver Broncos who have just three wins, and the Bengals who mustered up two as of this article.

But can the Miami Dolphins still win the division?
They’d have to split the season and win the last game of the season against the Bills. There’s almost no shot the Pats or Jets recover to take the division so it will come down to the Bills and Dolphins. Buffalo still has the 49ers, Steelers, and Dolphins left. However, they still have their struggling teams left as well with the Chargers, Broncos, and Patriots. In terms of toughness of schedule, they’re pretty even.
With how explosive the Dolphins defense is at times, there’s no team in the NFL they can’t keep up with. On the offensive side of things, they’ve hit their stride at times but still are struggling. Either way, those struggles are offset by the defense.
Miami very well could win the division. With that being said, they’ll find a hard time winning in the playoffs if their offense doesn’t step up to match the defense. Tua has the right skill set to keep them competitive, but right now they don’t have the explosive plays of teams like the Ravens and Chiefs. While fans have been stuck in the dark ages with the Dolphins, a playoff birth would be a sigh of relief, and winning the division will finally be worth it. Miami might have an outside chance at the division, but I wouldn’t rule them out.
