Carolina Panthers: 3 Improvements Cam Newton Must Make In 2018
Cam Newton Must Make His Team Believe In Him
In no way am I implying that Cam is an awful leader on the field but when you have led your team to only three playoff appearances, there is room for improvement. Year after year, fans, and the media have found ways to end Brady and the Patriots reign, and every year, they are crushed. This is the season where Newton has to be the Brady and Rodgers for the Panthers. Does he need to throw for 5000 yards and 40 touchdowns? No, but he must keep his team away from those 7-9 and 8-8 seasons.
Then there are the infamous press conferences. A player should be able to wear whatever he wants but Cam Newton knows that his attire draws interest. I get it, he wants to be different but let the post-game speech be about the game and not the clothes. Suits are the norm and when he clocks out, then he can get as fly as he wants. Keep The media at arm’s length and hurt them with your play.
Coach on the field. It’s time for Cam to become what Steve Smith used to be for the Carolina Panthers. He has to grab teammates by the collar, get in their face when mistakes are made and hold them accountable. There can be no more hanging of the head or wrapping his thoughts in a towel on the sideline. His teammates have to know that he’s disappointed in their play and not just by shaking his head but by finger-pointing. He has to step up.
